About Us
Oraicle Biosciences was set up with one vision: reducing the disease and death burden from oral cancers.
The non-communicable causes for oral cancers are well understood. Consumption of irritants and toxicants in oral (smokeless) tobacco products, combustible tobacco products and alcohol are the leading cause of precancerous lesions, many of which develop into oral cancers if neglected.
In India alone, every year over 50,000 people die of oral cancer related complications. We believe that most of these are preventable- given that the 5-year survival rates for Stage 1 are near 100% as against Stage 4 at lower than 20%. So diagnosing in time, treating the oral lesion and preventing further toxicant exposure through scientific evidence-based de-addiction methods can save millions of lives and families in a generation.
The oral cancer “epidemic” is not limited to India or South Asia- other epidemiological factors, including HPV, contribute to a significant global burden of oral cancer related morbidity and mortality that remains neglected. Oraicle Biosciences is changing that by innovating into diagnostic and prognostic solutions with a multi-disciplinary team and approach, and prioritising oral health for all.

Projects we are working on
Screening for pre-malignant and early-stage oral cancers can be done by experts by visual inspection. However, if the person at the point of care (POC) who is screening is not skilled and experienced, then the sensitivity and specificity of the visual diagnosis can be very low.
There are proteins that we have identified in the saliva that can be an indicator of current or potentially imminent oral pathologies. In the coming years, we shall be testing the specificity and sensitivity of these proteins through robust clinical studies.
Using a combination of standard microbiology approaches and molecular tools, the biogeography of the oral microbiome in a range of tobacco-associated clinical conditions, across variations in diet, lifestyle, associated risk factors, can be profiled. This will serve as a baseline for screening and interventional tools in local populations
